Jersey Neuroscience Institute Director
Appointed Professor at Seton Hall University
EDISON, NJ: Metuchen resident Susan B. Fowler, PhD, RN, Director of Clinical
Trials for the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute (NJNI) at JFK Medical
Center in Edison has been appointed Assistant Professor at Seton Hall
University, Graduate Medical Education, Department of Neuroscience. In
her academic position, Dr. Fowler will be instructing neurology residents
on the roles and responsibilities of research and clinical trials in neurology,
actively trying to advance the science, with a particular focus on the
care of acute stroke patients.
In her 25-year career in healthcare and research, Dr. Fowler has been
a pioneer in the area of neuroscience nursing. Dr. Fowler has served as
chairperson of the national Neuroscience Nursing Foundation (NNF) and
recently was elected to the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses
(AANN) Board of Directors. Dr. Fowler has been actively involved in critical
care nursing as well and serves on research grant review panels for the
American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). She has received
many professional and educational awards and is well-published in medical
and nursing journals. Dr. Fowler recently served as a member of the editorial
board of the Journal of Neuroscience Nursing and continues to review manuscripts
for research based journals, including Applied Nursing Research.
Dr. Fowler’s credentials and accomplishments include a Bachelors of Nursing degree from Marquette University, a Master’s in Nursing degree California State University in Long Branch, and a PhD in Nursing from Rutgers University. Previous recognition includes the Wyett-Ayerst Nursing Fellowship (2000), a nomination for the Governor’s Nursing Merit Award (1998 and 2000), the AANN Individual Leadership Award (1998), and the AACN Mentoring Award (1998).
