New Jersey Neuroscience Institute Chairman
Recognized as one of Americas Top Doctors
EDISON, NJ-Metuchen resident Martin Gizzi, M.D., Ph.D., chairman and professor of Neurology at the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute (NJNI) at JFK Medical Center in Edison, has been honored as a top doctor by three publications. Dr. Gizzi has been recognized as one of Americas Top Doctors, a list published by Castle Connolly, and has also been listed in New York Magazines Best Doctors in the New York Area, and in New Jersey Magazines Top Doctors in New Jersey. He was also recognized for the same honors last year.
Physicians who make the final list for Americas Top Doctors have been recognized by a national review that surveys top medical professionals for names of doctors they consider to not only be the best in their field but to whom they would feel comfortable referring a family member. One must be listed by multiple professionals to make it to the list.
In his 14-year medical career, Dr. Gizzi has distinguished himself internationally as a researcher in vision and balance disorders. His work with NASA led to his directing experiments performed by astronauts aboard two space shuttle missions in the 1990s. He has received numerous research grants from the National Institutes of Health and NASA . In his clinical work he has become known as an expert in neuro-ophthalmology.
Dr. Gizzis credentials and accomplishments include a B.A. in Mathematics from Hamilton College in NY, an MA in Experimental Psychology and a Ph.D. in Visual Neurophysiology from New York University in New York City, and an M.D. from the University of Miami in FL. Dr. Gizzi is board certified in Neurology. His postdoctoral training includes a research fellowship in visual physiology at New York University; an internship at New Rochelle Hospital; and a neurology residency at Mount Sinai Hospital. In addition he served as chief resident in neurology and was a neuro-opthalmology fellow, both at Mount Sinai Hospital. As the director of NJNI, Dr. Gizzi holds the post of chairman of Neuroscience for Seton Hall University.
Previous professional honors include an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Clinical Award, the Archbishop McCarrick Outstanding Educator Award, and a National Eye Institute Physician-Scientist Award.
Dr. Gizzi is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine of New Jersey, the American Academy of Neurology, the American Neurotology Society, the Barany Society, the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology, the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society, and is a member of the Association of University Professors in Neurology. In addition, Dr. Gizzi has directed numerous regional and national medical conferences.
The New Jersey Neuroscience Institute at JFK Medical Center is a
comprehensive facility designed exclusively for the diagnosis, treatment,
and research of complex neurological disorders in adults and children.
Services offered at the Institute include programs in spine and brain
tumors, dizziness and balance disorders, epilepsy, cerebral palsy,
stroke, and movement disorders. As a department of Seton Hall University's
School of Graduate Medical Education, NJNI serves as the clinical
